Adult Formation for Advent - "The Way of Love - Practices for Jesus centered Life'

This past summer at General Convention, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry invited Episcopalians to join him on The Way of Love, describing it in this way:

Before they were called "church" or "Christian," this Jesus Movement was simply called "the way."

...how can we together grow more deeply with Jesus Christ at the center of our lives, so we can bear witness to his way of love in and for the world?

The deep roots of our Christian tradition may offer just such a path. For centuries, monastic communities have shaped their lives around rhythms and disciplines for following Jesus together. Such a pattern is known as a "Rule of Life." The framework you now hold - The Way of Love: Practices for Jesus-Centered Life - outlines a Rule for the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement.

The Way of Love is organized around seven practices - Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, and Rest. Each Sunday during our seven-week Advent, we will explore a different practice as it relates to the Advent season of expectation. You can learn more about The Way of Love by clicking HERE.

This Sunday, our practice focus will be: Worship - Advent Hymns & Canticles from the Book of Revelation
"When we worship, we gather with others before God. We hear the Good News of Jesus, give thanks, confess, and offer the brokenness of the world to God." The Way of Love

12/2 Mission Sunday: Bridgewater State Hospital Holiday Bag Donations

The Prison Ministry Group at St. Paul's is collecting items to fill gift bags for the men incarcerated at Bridgewater State Hospital, a medium-security psychiatric prison hospital. This Sunday is our Mission Sunday event, which is taking place from 9 to 10 am in the middle room/Food Pantry area. We're collecting the following items: Caffeine-free tea (boxes of tea bags)
Liquid body wash (the men at Bridgewater can't have bar soap)
Shampoo (any size)
Deodorant

We'll provide food, coffee, and more information about our group's goals, as well as about some of the issues involved in criminal justice and incarceration. Please stop by!

Chili Sale:
It is cold, wet, and icky outside which means that is must be time for the High School Youth Chili Sale to benefit Be An Angel Shopping! Be ready to load up on quarts of meat and vegan chili this Sunday after the 10am service!  1 Quart for $10 or 3 Quarts for $25  (P.S. Each quart comes with 4 corn muffins!)

45th Annual Messiah Sing:
The Messiah Sing is one of the more beloved annual traditions at St. Paul's. For many it is a central part of their Advent ritual. Come make the Messiah your own this year! Listen to solos sung by our talented soloists from the Choir, and sing your heart out on the wonderful choruses, offering up this great music as the true prayer it is. The Messiah Sing is free and open to everyone.

Volunteer for the BE AN ANGEL PROJECT

The holiday season is a stressful time for many individuals and families, but it is especially challenging for those people who are facing economic tough times. The St. Paul's Be an Angel Project is special in that our congregation will be assisting in the process of placing huge smiles on the faces of 50+ children of all ages and their families.

How does it work? Each St. Paul's volunteer will be matched with a child's wish list. This wish list is provided by the Brookline Community Mental Health Center. You will shop for the items on the wish list (approximately $100 per child) and return the unwrapped items to St. Paul's by Sunday, December 16. If you and your family would like to participate, please email Paul Daigneault at  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  to be matched with a child and his or her wish list.

Not a shopper? We are happy to accept your cash donation or gift card toward this program. Thank you for offering the time, energy, and financial resources to purchase gifts that will help to make the holidays a magical time for many children and families.

I am also looking for one or two adult volunteers to help administer the program this season. Email me for details!
