This service will begin at 5:00 PM, with a musical prelude beginning at 4:45 PM.

Adult Education Series for Lent

What can you give up for Lent?  Carbon!  Each Sunday in Lent at 9:00, the Adult Education Forum will discuss entering into a Carbon Fast, our chosen fast for this Lent (and beyond!).  Come learn how our relationship with our environment is a theological mandate.  We will be using the workbook "Low Carbon Diet" as our guide.  They will be available at the first session.  The forums will be lead by the rector and Jim Batchelor.  Please join us!

Forum on Choosing a Bishop: Today, March 9, 11:30 AM

On Sunday, March 9, there will be a "Choosing a Bishop" forum held in the Lichtenberger Room after the 10:00 service. Did you know that we will be electing the next bishop of the Diocese of Massachusetts on April 5? Did you know that we elected our bishops? Did you know we had bishops? Join us for a forum after church to discuss the role of bishop, learn how bishops are chosen in the Episcopal Church, and hear a bit about the candidates for Bishop of Massachusetts.

Lenten House Church 2014

For the past several years members of St. Paul's have been meeting in parishioners' homes for five Friday evenings during Lent for Lenten House Church Gatherings. Approximately 10 to 25 people have gathered for an informal meal of soup, salad, bread, and beverages (provided by the attendees), followed by an informal discussion of an appropriate Lenten topic, reading, or a book. This year's Friday Lenten House Church Gatherings will be held on the following dates/places: March 14 (Mahony's, Roslindale), March 21 (Este-Smargiassi's Jamaica Plain) March 28 (O'Brien's/Sanches, Newton), April 4 (Ferguson's, Brookline), and April 11 (Mello/Daigneault, The Rectory).

St. Paul's has chosen to read the book "A Practical Christianity: Meditations for the Lenten Season" by The Reverend Jane Shaw, Dean of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, CA for our 2014 Lenten House Church Gathering. The book is published by Morehouse Publishing, is written in 5 Chapters and contains a study guide. It can be purchased online at Amazon at https://amazon.com and https://churchpublishing.org.  Please note that you do not have to read the book to attend, nor do you have to attend every week!

Since Lenten House Church attendees enjoy socializing before and during the informal meal, we are scheduling a social time from 6:00 to 6:30pm, the meal from 6:30 to 7:30pm, and the book discussion from 7:30-8:30/9:00pm. These are Pot Luck events for which we are looking for a volunteer to coordinate the food for each Friday and you can help the person who coordinates the food tremendously by signing up to bring Soup, Salad, Bread, and Wine here. .

St. Paul's is providing child care on each of the Fridays. If you have any questions, please call Ed Jacobson at 617-529-5390 or email him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
